Starlight Theatre

Four-piece band from Brisbane, Starlight Theatre (formally known as Falling Short) provides audiences with a high energy compilation of rock and pop.

The band formed as Falling Short in 2006 and supported Switchfoot, MxPx and Antiskeptic. The original members, Josh and Colin, decided they needed a name change because they had been playing under the title of Falling Short for many years. New members and a new sound called for the name Starlight Theatre.

Starlight Theatre are:
Justin Truloff - Vocals
Josh Belz - Bass
Colin Moore - Lead Guitar
Paul Bradshaw - Drums

The name Starlight Theatre summarises the sound of the band. The EP titled 'True Love Stories Never Have Happy Endings' is unbelievable memorable, with their attractive, fun chorus and soulful rock verses.

Starlight Theatre believes that 'Brand New Eyes' is the best of their new different and ambitions tracks. The song is an experience; catching their new rock sound and mixing it with smooth lyrics. 'Brand New Eyes' is about a new infatuation, the initial feeling of when you see someone for who they actually are. Brand New Eyes is a real song with real lyrics and showcases the music abilities of Starlight Theater.

Interview with Starlight Theatre

How did it feel to hear your song played all over the airwaves?

Colin Moore: Hmmm. Satisfying I guess. We worked really hard on the songs so it's very rewarding for radio to get behind them. It's exciting for sure!

Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Colin Moore: Yes, I would say so. Some have been pretty accurate, some we've learnt more about as we've become more involved. I find it to be a very love/hate relationship…

Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?

Colin Moore: We certainly do write our own songs. Inspiration can come from anywhere at nearly anytime, the trick is to make sure you capture it as best you can. Sometimes from an interesting conversation, sometimes from pain, sometimes from just a revelation about life.

What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Colin Moore: We always say our favourite artists are U2, Anberlin and Angels and Airwaves. Lately though I've been listening to a lot of Death Cab For Cutie and Jack's Mannequin.

What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

Colin Moore: At the time of writing this we are mid tour. Just about to play some shows in Melbourne! We would love to do an album, hopefully in the near future!

Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Colin Moore: For sure. Bands are harder to keep together then most people would realise. You rely a lot on each other all the time, which can get strained on occasion. A band that will do well is one with great conflict resolution skills and I think we are getting pretty good!

Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Colin Moore: I personally prefer performing live... most of the time anyway! It's always great to see people enjoying what you're doing right in front of you.

What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Colin Moore: I guess when we started out we weren't consciously deciding to 'get into the music industry' as such. We just knew that we wanted to play together. We were very naïve when we started.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Colin Moore: I think we are going through it now actually, helping Justin (new singer) get fully acquainted with the live music scene in Australia. It's a big job!

What's a typical day like?

Colin Moore: Wake up (hopefully after 10am). Find coffee and raisin toast ASAP. Check emails. Try to reply to people on myspace etc. Find our way to the venue. Sound check. Eat dinner (hopefully). Play our set. Hang out briefly at venue. Head for hotel or home. Sleep (yay!).

What has been your favorite part of becoming a music artist?

Colin Moore: One of my favourite aspects is certainly discovering new things. Whenever you think you know it all, you always find something new learn. I also love taking rough demos to great studios, recording and watching the songs really come to life!

If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Colin Moore: For me, definitely Bono (from U2).

Are you single? What do you look for in a partner?

Colin Moore: I personally am not, but the rest of the band is! What I look for though is someone who is as crazy about you as you are about them. Someone sincere and honest about who they are and what they really want out of life.

Do you have a website fans can visit?

Colin Moore: For sure. Head to www.myspace.com/starlighttheatremusic Enjoy!

Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy & enjoyable life?

Colin Moore: 1. Surround yourself with good people
2. Drink at least one great cappuccino every day
3. Never rush into a relationship. The only thing worse than being single for your entire life, is being married to the wrong person.
4. Take time out without music, movies or any sort of media. Just you and solitude. Take away the distractions and be honest with your own thoughts. Get to know yourself.
5. Listen to more Starlight Theatre!

What message would you like to say to your fans?

Colin Moore: A massive THANK YOU and please keep listening!

What is the story behind the bands name?

Colin Moore: We just came together and wrote down some words and concepts that we liked and thought described where we would like to be musically. Eventually 'Starlight Theatre' emerged.
