Interview with Sascha Raeburn
How does it feel to see yourself on screen?
Sascha Raeburn: At first it was really hard, I'd grab a pillow or the nearest person next to me and peak my head up now and then! But now I'm fairly used to it, I've learnt to not be so hard on myself and be a healthy critic.
Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the acting industry?
Sascha Raeburn: Yes! When I first made my move to Sydney I thought I'd get an agent and start landing things straight away… Then I realised there's this process before you even get a good agent let alone going to an audition!
What movies and actors/actresses do you watch when your not performing yourself?
Sascha Raeburn: Uma Thurman, Toni Collette, Samuel L Jackson, Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Leonardo Dicaprio, Hilary Swank, Naomi Watts, Scarlett Johannson, Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Charlize Theron, Naomi Watts, Dustin Hoffman.
What's next? Film/TV?
Sascha Raeburn: They're casting for a few things on T.V. at the moment that my agent has an eye on me for so we'll see there...
I just finished a funky Martial Art music video, and right now I'm working on a little film called 'Go Girls!' for the festival circuit, in 2011 there's also a film I'm in called Nightstar coming out too.
Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?
Sascha Raeburn: Sometimes I've had doubts about if I'm doing it the 'right way', however I've never once contemplated giving up I love it too much to ever think of abandoning it or to change my career no matter how tough it could get.

Do you prefer performing live on stage or pre-recording?
Sascha Raeburn: I've been enjoying filming lately and working on different project's with various crew. There's something universal about pre-recording, when you're performing you don't quite know who you'll reach as they're not sitting right in front of you, so you must elevate to that camera and make it special.. Sometimes there's a feeling of mystery and it requires certain patience. Having said that I know there is a magic and thrill of performing in front of a live audience also, the immediacy can be telling and so rewarding.
What/who was your inspiration to go into the acting industry?
Sascha Raeburn: That started when I was very young, I wanted to be every profession as I kid. Then being in a play re-affirmed it. Growing up, I also watched a lot of old movies with my Mum, when I saw James Dean act in Rebel I knew even more that's what I wanted to do.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your acting success?
Sascha Raeburn: Definitely believing in myself and that can mean not always listening to people, sometimes you've got to know that you're gut instinct always knows best and that can be a very hard thing to recognise and trust.
What's a typical day like?
Sascha Raeburn: Each project is different but a typical day on set more or less consists of an early start, wake- up 5am then around 6.15 make-up & wardrobe, rehearse and shoot a couple of scenes before lunch then come back and shoot a couple of more scenes right through to the evening often till late, that's with a fairly organised production. Some projects have Rehearsal meetings beforehand and different location restrictions so times vary across the board. On non-days of shooting, time is scheduled for me to prepare for my role, by getting familiar with the script, do my own research etc.
What has been your favorite part of becoming an actress?
Sascha Raeburn: When a role is yours and you can start creating knowing very well that the character needs you, and the variety involved in each job.
