Delamare

Delamare are a five piece pop rock group formed in February 2008 in Adelaide, South Australia. Delamare thanks South Australia’s dedication to music and performing as they have thrived in the music scene of their hometown of Adelaide, which loves a good jam session. The band have enjoyed the quick rise to success.

Since their inception, Delamare have been in and out of the studio extensively. During July this year, they recorded their debut EP Imaginary Things at Broadcast studios in Adelaide with producer Luke Webb, who has been front of house engineer for Kisschasy for the past few years, and whose production credits include The Angels, Rose Tattoo and Faker.

In August Delamare embarked on their first East Coast tour of Australia, ‘Losing the Vee’s Tour’, which saw them visit Geelong, Melbourne, Sydney, the Central Coast and Brisbane; and play at some of Australia’s most prestigious rock venues, including the Espy in St Kilda and the Princess Theatre in Brisbane, with some well renowned interstate bands including Stealing O’Neal, Brittle, Falling Short and Acid Eyeliner. Already they have supported such acts as Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci, The Hot Lies, In Ficition, Stealing O’Neal and Dangerous!

Band Members are: Matt Khabbaz (Vocals/Guitar), Tim Manfield (Guitar), Dom Symes (Keys/Vocals), Lachlan Jones (Drums) and Michael Khabbaz (Bass/Vocals). Delamare deliver their audience a mix of punchy riffs, fresh harmonies and energetic key and a high energy stage show, making a name for themselves within the Adelaide, and the wider Australian music scene. Mixing melodies with rock to produce hard-hitting music that is for all listening! Plus the boys aren’t too bad on the eyes either!

How does it feel to perform on stage?

Delamare: It’s a great feeling! You get heaps of adrenaline and the crowd hype’s you up to hopefully perform well!

Describe your music style?

Delamare: We play a new spin on the catchy pop/rock genre. We try and collaborate our influences and really create a spark with our fun music style.

Whose music do you admire most?

Delamare: I would like to be generic and say someone so great like The Beatles, but I guess we have to be realistic and see what we admire today. Someone like Fall Out Boy we could always look up to as they have really taken the world by storm playing really catchy music.

What is your favourite shop?

Delamare: I shop at a retail store called ‘Realstore’ which is around the corner from my house! It’s sick, they have the best gear.

Where would we find you on a Sunday?

Delamare: Most probably at band practice. If not just hanging out somewhere with a few mates. Sunday is definitely my relax day!

How did it feel the first time you listened to your CD?

Delamare: Mixed emotions really. I was very proud of what we had done as a band but you always feel like you could’ve done more, but I was definitely happy with the result the first time I listened back properly.

Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Delamare: I knew from past experiences that the industry is very hard to predict. One day they hate you and the next they are trying to help. I think its just a matter of hard work to really prove to the industry that you have something to offer, and at this point I feel we are heading in that direction.

Do you write your own songs? What’s your inspiration?

Delamare: Yes, we do write our own tracks. Inspiration is sought from bands that we like, but as well as that we also find inspiration in our day to day lives, working off things that may have happened to us, or feelings that we get about certain things.

What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Delamare: I love cheesy pop music. Anything with a catchy chorus that I can sing along to, so pretty music the radio. Artists, hmmm….the obvious ones like Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco, as well as PINK, The Veronicas, and even a bit of Delta Goodrem.

What’s the most exciting part of touring?

Delamare: Meeting new people I would say. We love networking and making new friends on the road because it’s always nice to know that next time you go back there are people to hang out with and help along the way.

Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Delamare: Definitely performing live. Recording is pretty stressful I think, it’s very rewarding but the in between time when you just sit and wait is too tense for me haha

What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Delamare: I think it’s easy to say that playing music when I was younger just kind of lead me into this industry.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Delamare: I think the fact that you must tirelessly play shows and promote your name to be recognised in the industry. School also played a part early on as well as it took up a great deal of our time previous to working with Delamare.

Are you boys single? What do you look for in a partner?

Delamare: I am haha only Lachy and I are single. The most important thing is someone who is fun. If you can’t have fun then why be in a relationship!

What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?

Delamare: ARRGGHH I cant believe it’s time to get up!!....pretty much haha
